Yacht Club
You may find yachts and boats in a yacht club. Sports activities like sailing and yachting are carried out in a yacht club. Usually you may find a yacht club near a sea or a lake or a riverside. Some really popular yacht clubs are Württembergischer Yacht Club located in Friedrichshafen, Germany, Yacht Club of Kiel, Royal Yacht Squadron and the Yacht Club de France. Today, the most well known yacht clubs can be found in Australia, the UK, Canada and the United States.
Most of the yacht clubs have got areas that are marked as off-limit for swimmers. These yacht clubs are usually used by the exclusive members and have facilities like that of a clubhouse, café, bar and restaurants for people to even socialize.
Most of the people find a yacht club same as a sailing club. The difference between the two however lies in their usage of boats. Initially, since a yacht club offered membership to only yacht owners, thus, it was exclusively for aristocrats. On the contrary, a sailing club consists of memberships by boat owner, no matter small or large.
Today, yacht club has become the apt place to organize social get together and enjoy and promote sports like cruising and sailboat racing. The member is kind of mixed including the crew members of sailing or racing yacht and obviously the boat owners.
Yachts clubs have a great history to follow. Royal Cork Yacht Club was the fist in its kind to open in the year 1720. Although if one goes by date, the Neva Yacht Club, which was founded in the year 1718, has to be the first yacht club. Many people often think so as well. But since it was founded by a decree of Emperor Peter the Great, its qualification for a proper club does not count.
The yacht clubs employ staff for attending duties like at the bar, office, boat yard, club house etc. the members elect the office posts like the Yacht club Secretary, Cruising Captain, Commodore, Racing Captain etc. amongst themselves for control of the organization. Active participation of members is required for the maintenance of the club.
These days many yacht clubs have commercialized and are owned by a private body to cater for services and the profits alike. Although the objectives of these are no different from their counterparts, but more emphasis here is given on social get together than water sports.
