Owning a pre-owned Sailing Yacht
Spending a weekend sailing on board a sailing yacht is one of the top choices for holiday options. Sailing gives a refreshing and relaxing experience with friends and family appreciating nature and tranquillity. This is the reason why there is an increasing number of people geared towards purchasing either a brand new or a used sailing yacht.
Owning a sailing yacht is known to only be for the rich and famous because it is considered as an unnecessary expense or a luxury item and the working class can only afford to rent one for a weekend or a holiday or chartering after months of working and saving up for a holiday on a sailing yacht.
Times are changing and yacht manufacturers are coming up with newer models with improved amenities or features. Hence, sailing yacht owners are now selling their old models at a much lower rate to be able to purchase the newest ones being offered giving those who can’t readily afford to buy and invest their money in a brand new yacht a chance to own and enjoy sailing more often.
There are several points to consider however when you are shopping for a pre-owned sailing yacht. The very first thing of course is making up your mind about the type of leisure activity you intend to partake in on a longer term.
Of course if you are a beginner and only have to go on day sailing or for just a weekend, you may want to consider a small, daytime sailing yacht. This would just be enough to get give you a feel of the controls while sailing on open waters. Commonly known as dinghies, this daytime sailing yacht however, doesn’t have a cabin for longer overnight accommodations but they have a so called “cubby” meant for storage of important items that you take with you or in instances, when you are experiencing a so called ocean spray, a temporary shelter.
Now if you have a bit more experience from renting out a sailing yacht on weekends and your long term goal is to using your sailing yacht for longer sailing trips then you need to get yourself a type of weekend yacht. This type of sailing yacht has the facilities for overnight camping trips or short vacation trips. Part of the amenities is a small cabin with a bed that can fit around 2 or 3 people plus a storage area for overnight trips.
In the event that you are planning on going on long trips with a small group of friends and family then you should choose a cruising yacht because this type of sailing yacht is around 30 to 50 feet long and yet allows you to manoeuvre easily. On top of this, it has a bigger space and amenities enough to have a comfortable cruising experience even for a larger group of people.
Advanced sailors prefer a sailing yacht with a motor for a better peace of mind while on a sailing trip. This is advantageous for instances when the weather gets bad in the middle of a longer sailing trip planned or when there is not much wind in the ocean, because it is still possible to continue on with the cruise.
Whatever it is that you decide on, happy sailing!
