What’s with a Kayak?

Much has been said about a kayak adventure. If you have seen a movie with a kayak surfing scene wherein you see a kayak gliding elegantly on the water then you definitely know why and for sure would be interested in trying it out yourself.

For those of you who don’t know what a kayak is, well go and read on. A kayak is a small and narrow boat initially used for hunting, that can fit a maximum of two people though in rare cases, can fit in three people, and powered by humans with the aid of a paddle.  Although in some countries, they consider a kayak as a type of a canoe, in reality, a canoe is different from a kayak in the sense that a canoe can be run using a motor, a sail or by paddling as well. Benefits of surfing on a kayak: For one, it is a very refreshing way to get an upper body work-out because you definitely have to use your arms and mid section to manoeuvre around a body of water such as a lake, a bay, the ocean and for some beginners, even in a swimming pool, with the use of a paddle.

This is also an activity that you can share with friends and family. It could bring you either closer if it turns out as a great experience or farther apart if your kayak flips over and you get so close to drowning.

One good way to take good photographs of nature is when you take them on board a kayak because you come up really close to the subject of your photograph. You just have to of course take with you a waterproof camera because you can tip over at any point in your surfing.

When you go on a kayak surfing adventure on wild waters, it is surely a test of quick thinking, tact, and upper body strength and survival techniques.

Types of kayak: Depending on what type of water adventure you’re up for, you can choose from a variety of modern kayak types. There’s a kayak that is meant for laidback sailing or photography and usually it is the small white water kayak that is the preference

However if you’re looking for real water adventure on a bit of wild water to surf the breaking waves or do surf zone rescue activities, then you definitely need a surf ski. If you have that need for speed, then you would surely have to get on board a racing type kayak.

If you are looking to surf on different water locations then it is practical to get yourself an inflatable kayak but don’t expect so much action on board this type of kayak because for rougher activities, you would still need to get either a skin kayak, a frame recreational kayak, a racer kayak or in any other case, a sea kayak.

Furthermore, there are two other kayak types of make for kayaking. The seat on top kayak allows you to sit above the water level and can accommodate even 3 paddlers or the strip built type which is wooden. So make up your mind and let’s go on a kayak adventure.
