What to look for in a Kayak Sale

Kayak enthusiasts eventually aim to get their own kayak but start with pre-owned kayaks. Looking for a kayak sale is not like when you are looking for clothing or other items that you can see a sale sign posted outside an establishment almost every so often. In some instances, you can find a kayak sale sign in marine or boat stores, or outside kayak rental stores but, it is not as often as when clothes go on sale.

When marine or boat rental stores put up a kayak sale, you are sure to get a good deal as these kayaks that they put on sale are usually the ones that they have used only for demonstration purposes or are the ones on display in their showroom for the longest time and they need room for the newest models to market to kayak fanatics.

Another good place to look forward to going on a kayak sale are boat rental stores because they give a good bargain for their well maintained kayaks and you’ll only get to see very minimal signs of wear and tear. The kayak sale being put up by these rental stores are seasonal so better watch out for their next sale.

The perfect time to look for a kayak sale is when the off season is approaching because there is most likely no business around the period after the fall season comes around and there is minimal activity on the lakes. These boat owners and rental shops would surely give a good deal for some of their second hand kayaks.

One very important tip for those buying off their kayak from a kayak sale is that you should make sure that the kit is still in a usable and good condition. Make sure to check on the length of the hull of the kayak for any sign of damage. Also have a look at the previous repairs done or if the kayak has patches on the hull. If this is the case, then look away and move on with the next one.

These stores have good repairmen working or doing the patchwork on these kayaks so you have to have a keen eye or bring a friend who has more experience in kayaking as he will surely know where to look. Have a look and test the rubber or the “skeg” if it is still operating or working as it should

It is advisable to request to take the kayak on a short test run in a short river so you can gauge if it can still handle the current and the waves before you commit or give your decision to purchase the kayak. Now, if the seller has his hesitations on granting your request then this is a clear sign that you should look away and move on to the next kayak sale.

Never short sell yourself because even if it is just a second hand kayak, you are still spending hard earned money so be patient and keep looking. You will eventually find a good deal on other kayak sale sites. After all, you need to be assured that you will still be safe in the kayak when you go for a ride.
